Started in 1994 as a wing for social projects of the well-known Health Organization of Central Maharashtra- Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Vaidyakiya Pratishthan's Dr Hedgewar Hospital (www.hedgewar.org), Savitribai Phule Mahila Ekatma Samaj Mandal (SPMESM) is today a trusted Not-for-profit of Maharashtra.

While Dr. Hedgewar Hospital was started with the aim to provide quality medical services at affordable costs; SPMESM's work was the quest to work on the root causes of Health Issues- Poverty, Unemployment, Social injustice, Gender Inequalities, Agrarian Crisis, and Climate Change Effects. The answers were beyond healthcare and needed much deeper and widespread work with the vulnerable communities in slums and remote rural areas.

SPMESM has its genesis from the famous healthcare institute of Maharashtra - Dr Hedgewar Hospital

After a journey of almost 3 decades, SPMESM today is known for meaningful, need-based developmental projects with extraordinary results! With 90 projects in Health, Education, Skill Development, Natural Resources Management, Women Empowerment, and Sustainable Development; SPMESM has a strong presence in 900+ villages in 12 Districts and 80+ Slums in 2 cities.

Strong community connection is the Lifeline of SPMESM. Committed Volunteers are our real strength! SPMESM has a transparent, democratic organizational structure. We have a professional approach to project management ensuring the desired social impacts. This is one of the few NGOs with a functional Quality Management System and ISO Certification.

SPMESM is a partner to many social organizations and corporate groups in various developmental initiatives.
